Oracle Mobile Data Sync
Oracle Mobile Data Sync takes advantage of the OMA-DS (Open Mobile Alliance - Data Synchronization) protocol (formerly known as SyncML) to deliver true remote synchronization of data with a wide range of OMA-DS-enabled devices. This alternative to the Desktop-to-PDA synchronization allows you the freedom to be anywhere while having the most up-to-the-second information. Any compatible device with a working Internet connection can synchronize its calendar with dCal, allowing you to check and update your online calendar on the go.
Note: If at all possible, one of the sources (either your device or your dCal account) should be blank for the initial synchronization. If there is data on both your device and your dCal account, your initial synchronization could result in data duplication.
Wireless devices
Wireless synchronization with PalmOS, PocketPC/Windows Mobile, and RIM BlackBerry devices requires a third-party sync client; we recommend NotifyLink. Some devices (for example, some Nokia and Sony Ericsson phones) include an embedded OMA-DS client which can be configured for dCal synchronization (see Configuring the Client below).
Supported devices
Check with your department's technical support staff about whether or not they will support a particular device with a particular carrier. OIT will work with your department's technical support staff to provide dCal synchronization support. If you need help choosing a wireless device to sync with dCal, please contact us.
For devices which require a third-party sync client, we recommend NotifyLink. For information on which devices are compatible with NotifyLink, visit the NotifyLink - Supported Devices page.
For a list of devices with an embedded OMA-DS client certified by Oracle to work with Oracle Mobile Data Sync, visit the Oracle Mobile Data Sync - Getting Started page. Other devices may work with dCal as well.
Configuring the client
For more information on obtaining a NotifyLink account and configuring the NotifyLink client on your device, visit the NotifyLink Getting Started page.
For devices using a native OMA-DS client or a third-party client other than NotifyLink, use the following settings to configure an OMA-DS client to synchronize with dCal:
| Server URL | https://schedule.duke.edu:4445/ocst-bin/ocas.fcgi?sub=syncml | |
|---|---|---|
| User | Your NetID | |
| Password | Your NetID password | |
| Contacts Server Path | ./Contacts | |
| Events Server Path | ./Calendar/Events | |
| Tasks Server Path | ./Calendar/Tasks |
Please note the leading period before the slash in the above server paths.
For devices with few options for customizing the way the device synchronizes information with dCal, you can make special modifications to the URL and paths above. For more details, please see the Customizing synchronization section of the Oracle Mobile Data Sync documentation.
Note: Some devices have special considerations. Be sure to read about any known issues for your device.
