Recommended dCal Settings
There are several settings that we recommend you change to improve your dCal experience. Some of these settings may already be in place. Setting names may vary slightly due to differences in the various Oracle clients, and some settings are not available in the all clients.
To find and change your dCal settings, do one the following:
- Windows: Select Tools > Options.
- Mac: Select Oracle Calendar > Preferences.
- Linux: Select Tools > Options then select the desired subcategory.
- Web: Click Preferences.
Agenda
- Display: Select Current time to have the current time display as a thin red line on your daily/weekly agenda.
In-Tray
- No recommended changes.
Scheduling
- Hours: Set your Normal hours (and Extended hours if desired) and select Gray outside normal hours to clearly differentiate your work hours from the rest of your day.
Entry Defaults
- No recommended changes.
General
- Formatting: Due to the way Duke identity management and Oracle identity management interact, the middle initial in dCal is actually a repeat of the first name. Select a User name format that does not include a middle initial to supress the doubling of the first name.
- Formatting: Select OU1 to display the user's departmental affiliation after their name.
Offline
- No recommended changes.
Addresses
- Address Lists: We recommend selecting all of the available Address Lists options:
- Global Address List: Enables searching of the University directory when locating people or adding attendees
- Personal Address Book: Enables use of the local Oracle Address Book (not available in the Web Client)
- Enable searching for invitees: Enables searching of your local Oracle Address Book when locating people or adding attendees
- Enable automatic name completion: Enables the display of a list of possible matches when you begin typing a contact name
