Managing dCal resources

Managing a dCal resource takes place on two levels: a resource designate can modify a resource's agenda, and a departmental resource manager can modify a resource's password and access rights. If you require designate rights to a resource in dCal, please see your departmental resource manager.

Modifying a resource agenda

To modify a resource agenda, your department's resource manager must grant you designate rights to the resource (see below). You may then modify the resource's agenda in the same way you would modify another user's agenda (as a designate). For more information about acting as a designate, see the Oracle Client Help or dCal support.

Modifying a resource password and access rights

If you are a resource manager, you can modify a resource's access rights so that specific users may modify that resource's agenda. If you need to manage a resource's agenda, you will need to grant access rights to yourself for each resource you wish to manage.

To modify a resource's password and access rights, create a Resource Management connection and sign in to the Oracle Calendar desktop client as the resource, using the resource password. You cannot perform these tasks via the dCal Web client.

Create a new Resource Management connection

To create a Resource Management connection to the dCal server, do the following:

Note: Regardless of the number of resources you manage, you only need to do this once.

  1. Start the Oracle Calendar desktop client.
  2. In the Sign-in window, click Other.
  3. In the Connection Manager window, click New.
  4. In the Connection Editor window, in the Connection Name box, type Resource Management.
  5. In the Server box, type schedule.duke.edu, then click Lookup.
  6. In the Connection Configuration window, select Configure At Login From User Name.
  7. Click Configure. The Connection Configuration window closes.
  8. In the Connection Editor window, click OK. The Connection Editor window closes.
  9. In the Connection Manager window, click OK. The Connection Manager window closes.

Note: Do not select Enable Automatic Sign-in. The dCal server does not support this feature.

Sign in as the resource

In order to sign in as a resource, close the client to sign out of your account, then do the following:

  1. Start the Oracle Calendar client.
  2. In the Sign-in window, in the Connect to box, select Resource Management.
  3. In the User Name box, type r: followed by the resource name.
  4. In the Password box, type the resource password (provided to you by either a dCal administrator or the resource manager).
  5. Click Sign-in. A window appears advising that you have signed in as a resource and that your capabilities are limited.

Modify the resource password and access rights

Modify the resource password and access rights in the same way you modify them for your own agenda. For more information on modifying access rights, see the Oracle Client Help or dCal support.
